Squid Ink Could One Day Be Used to Test for Gum Disease

Gum disease is a common oral condition that affects an estimated 64.7 million American adults, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This new study shows that dentists could one day eliminate one of the tools used to test for gum disease thanks to the innovative use of squid ink.

Usually extreme pain sends patients reluctantly to the dentist to seek treatment they have been avoiding, since the cause of many root canals is decay that has gone unaddressed over time. In the past, root canals were the unchallenged, go-to treatment when the inside of the tooth became too infected for a simple filling. Ignoring a Misaligned Jaw is a Mistake

Oral health is an interesting thing for many people. If it doesn’t look bad and it isn't painful, nothing is wrong, right? This misconception is probably one of the reasons that Occlusal disease, among other conditions, often causes so many problems that aren’t detected until they’ve become serious and much harder to treat. Occlusal disease, OD, refers to a misaligned bite that does extreme damage to the teeth, muscles, jaw and even the gums if left untreated over time.
