****We no longer provide root canal treatment in our office for numerous reasons.  Root canals are an option to maintain an infected or irreversibly inflamed tooth.  When a root canal is needed we will educate each client about root canals, the good and the bad.  We will also discuss all tooth replacement options if extraction of the tooth chosen.  To save a tooth with a root canal is a personal choice that needs to be made by each client individually only after a complete understanding of the pros and cons or treatment.  When root canal therapy is elected we highly recommend seeing a dentist who is highly skilled and experienced, most often this is an Endodontist (root canal specialist).  Beyond the skill of the dentist, we also recommend the use of Ozone and Laser Assisted Irrigation (PIPS technique).  It is our believe that this combination will provide the best opportunity for success.  Below is a brief explanation of the recommended Root Canal Therapy technique.

Root Canal Therapy is complex procedure that is sometimes required to save an extensively damaged tooth. When the pulp (nerve) of a tooth is infected or inflamed, the diseased tissue inside the tooth must be remove to eliminate the problem. There are two ways in which this can be done: Root Canal Therapy or Extraction (pulling the tooth).

Root Canal Therapy that we offer combines the most advanced techniques available to clean and disinfect the complex anatomy prior to sealing and restoring the tooth with a biomimetic tooth restoration. Traditional methods are first used used to clean the main canals of the tooth. This involves using small files to clean and shape the majority of the inside of the tooth. Once this is complete we use two additional methods of to further cleaning and disinfect the rest of the tooth…..all the nooks and crannies that small files cannot access. First, Laser Assisted Irrigation (PIPS) is used to completely rinse, flush, and irrigate the entire tooth more completely than traditional irrigation. Low level laser energy to used to flush irrigating solutions within the tooth by means of Photon-Induced Photoacoustic Streaming. Second, after laser irrigation, ozone gas is used in each canal of the tooth to complete the disinfection of any remaining bacteria, parasites, or fungi. Ozone also promotes healing in the tissues around the tooth. The laser flushes and opens up all the complex anatomy inside a tooth, thus allowing the ozone to fully penetrate the entire tooth to kill any remaining infection.

Root Canal Therapy is difficult decision for most people to make, but equally as difficult is the choice to have tooth pulled out. If the choice is a root canal and saving the tooth, Ozone and Laser Root Canal Therapy followed by a high-quality Biomimetic restoration provides the most efficient way to reduce the likelihood that the tooth gets re-infected and ultimately fails.
